National Pharmacy Council Pre-Registration Examination

Overview
Rwanda’s pharmacist licensing pathway is overseen by the National Pharmacy Council (NPC). After graduation and a mandatory one-year internship, candidates sit the Pre-registration Examination, which includes a written paper followed by an oral examination.
Written Exam = 100 MCQs · Oral Exam = Viva / Professional Judgment
Prep plan (simple & effective)
- Pass 1: Cover the written domains fast → Applied Therapeutics, Pharmacology/Toxicology, Pharmacy Practice, Pharmaceutics, Supply Chain, and Law
- Pass 2: Drill timed MCQs → 100 questions in 180 minutes, with extra focus on Applied Therapeutics as the largest domain
- Review: Reattempt missed questions within 48 hours and rehearse oral answers for medication care, ethics, and supply chain
- Final week: Mix full written practice with 20-minute oral station drills and clear verbal justification practice
Pharmacists: Rwanda NPC Pre-registration Examination
Written Examination
- Format: 100 multiple-choice questions completed in 180 minutes.
- Progression: Candidates must pass the written examination before proceeding to the oral examination.
- Pass Mark: 60% for the written component.
- Core Areas: Pharmacology and Toxicology, Applied Therapeutics, Pharmacy Practice, Pharmaceutics, Supply Chain Management, and Pharmacy Laws and Regulations.
Oral Examination
- Format: Maximum 20-minute oral assessment with two structured stations.
- Station 1: Medication knowledge and pharmaceutical care.
- Station 2: Legal and ethical practice plus supply chain management.
- What Is Tested: Clear communication, safe patient care, professional judgement, legal reasoning, and practical supply-chain decisions.
