Mechanism of action

Acts as an indirect sympathomimetic by promoting norepinephrine release from presynaptic nerve terminals, stimulating α1-adrenergic receptors on vascular smooth muscle, causing vasoconstriction of nasal mucosa blood vessels, thereby reducing nasal congestion. Minimal direct agonist activity at β-adrenergic receptors may also contribute to its effects.

Indications

Nasal congestion due to common cold, hay fever (allergic rhinitis), upper respiratory allergies, sinus congestion, eustachian tube congestion.
