Mechanism of action

Indications

Treatment of HIV-1 infection in combination with other antiretroviral agents for patients with evidence of viral replication despite ongoing antiretroviral therapy.

Side effects

Injection site reactions (pain, swelling, erythema), hypersensitivity reactions (rash, fever, nausea, chills), pneumonia, increased risk of bacterial infections, lymphadenopathy, peripheral neuropathy.

Pregnancy category

Precautions

Monitor for signs of hypersensitivity reactions, pneumonia, bacterial infections, ensure proper injection technique to avoid injection site reactions, avoid use in patients with known hypersensitivity to enfuvirtide or any component, consider risk of transmission of infectious agents from animal-derived ingredients.

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to enfuvirtide or any component of the formulation, severe injection site reactions, known susceptibility to bacterial pneumonia, mechanical barriers to injection.
