Viocin sulfate (viomycin sulfate) dosage: Adults and children—15 mg/kg/day IV or IM, divided into 2 or 3 doses, maximum 1 g/day. Adjust dose for renal impairment. Not recommended for routine use due to toxicity; consider alternatives first.
Viocin sulfate (viomycin sulfate) binds to the 30S subunit of bacterial ribosomes, inhibiting protein synthesis by disrupting the initiation complex and causing misreading of mRNA, leading to bactericidal effects against primarily tubercle bacilli.
Treatment of pulmonary tuberculosis, particularly when resistant to other antitubercular drugs, adjunct therapy in multidrug-resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB).
Monitor renal function, auditory function, and vestibular function regularly, avoid concurrent use with other nephrotoxic or ototoxic drugs, adjust dosage in renal impairment, use cautiously in patients with neuromuscular disorders, perform regular blood tests to monitor for leukopenia and thrombocytopenia, ensure adequate hydration during treatment.
