Cefixime (50mg)
Cefixime (50mg)
Antibacterial; third-generation cephalosporin.
Powder for oral suspension, reconstituted to form a dry syrup.
Ziprax 50mg Dry Syrup (Cefixime) is typically used in children; usual pediatric dose is 8 mg/kg/day, given as a single dose or in two divided doses. Dose adjustment is recommended in severe renal impairment (creatinine clearance <20 mL/min). Safety and efficacy in adults or hepatic impairment should be guided by clinical judgment and product information.
Cefixime inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis by binding to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs), primarily PBP-3, disrupting peptidoglycan cross-linking. This leads to weakened cell walls, osmotic instability, and bacterial cell lysis. It is bactericidal against susceptible Gram-positive and Gram-negative organisms.

Limited human data; animal studies show no harm. Use in pregnancy only if clearly needed and potential benefits outweigh risks. Consult healthcare provider.
Hypersensitivity reactions, history of penicillin allergy, renal impairment, gastrointestinal disease (especially colitis), monitor for diarrhea or superinfection, assess renal and hepatic function periodically, monitor for signs of anaphylaxis, adjust dose in severe renal dysfunction, monitor for rash or other allergic reactions, use in pregnancy only if clearly needed.
Hypersensitivity to cefixime, cephalosporin antibiotics, or any component of the formulation, history of severe hypersensitivity (e.g., anaphylaxis) to penicillins or other beta-lactam antibiotics.
