Dose

Adults: Initial dose 4 mg, then 2 mg after each loose stool; maximum 16 mg/day. Children ≥6 years: 2 mg after first loose stool, then 1 mg after each subsequent loose stool; maximum 6 mg/day (6–8 years), 8 mg/day (8–12 years). Contraindicated in children <6 years. Use caution in hepatic impairment.

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to loperamide, acute dysentery with blood in stools and high fever, acute ulcerative colitis, bacterial enterocolitis, pseudomembranous colitis, abdominal distension, children under 2 years.
