Dose

Adults: 300 mL lactulose solution diluted with 700 mL water, administered rectally and retained for 30–60 minutes; may repeat 2–3 times daily for hepatic encephalopathy. Pediatric dosing not established. Use with caution in elderly and those with electrolyte imbalances; adjust as clinically indicated.
