Mechanism of action

Binds to the β-subunit of bacterial DNA-dependent RNA polymerase, inhibiting RNA synthesis and transcription, leading to suppression of bacterial protein synthesis and bacterial growth in the gastrointestinal tract. No significant activity on human RNA polymerase.
