Cefuroxime (250mg) + Clavulanic Acid (62.5mg)
Cefuroxime (250mg) + Clavulanic Acid (62.5mg)
Beta-lactam antibacterial; second-generation cephalosporin with beta-lactamase inhibitor.
Film-coated tablet containing cefuroxime and clavulanic acid for oral administration.
Forcef-CV 250 Tablet is typically taken twice daily. Adult and paediatric dosing may vary by infection severity and patient weight. Dose adjustment is recommended in renal impairment; use with caution in severe hepatic dysfunction. Always follow prescribing information and consult a healthcare professional for individualized dosing.
Cefuroxime inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis by binding to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs), disrupting peptidoglycan cross-linking and causing cell lysis. Clavulanic acid inhibits beta-lactamase enzymes, protecting cefuroxime from enzymatic degradation. Together, they enhance antibacterial activity against beta-lactamase-producing organisms, resulting in bacterial cell death.
Treatment of Bacterial infections
Nausea Vomiting Diarrhea Increased liver enzymes Allergic reaction
Use in pregnancy only if clearly needed; limited human data. Animal studies show no direct harm, but consult a healthcare provider before use.
History of hypersensitivity to beta-lactams, renal impairment, hepatic dysfunction, monitor for allergic reactions, monitor renal and liver function, risk of Clostridioides difficile-associated diarrhea, superinfection risk, adjust dose in severe renal impairment, monitor for hematologic changes, use in pregnancy and lactation only if clearly needed.
Hypersensitivity to cefuroxime, clavulanic acid, other cephalosporins, or beta-lactam antibiotics, history of severe allergic reactions (e.g., anaphylaxis) to penicillins, previous cholestatic jaundice or hepatic dysfunction with clavulanic acid-containing products.
