Drug classification

Topical corticosteroid (beclometasone) and topical antibiotic (fusidic acid) combination cream.

Dosage form

Topical cream containing beclometasone dipropionate and fusidic acid.

API strength per dosage

Dose

Apply a thin layer to the affected area 2–3 times daily. Use for up to 2 weeks; reassess if no improvement. Not recommended for children under 1 year. Use with caution in children and on the face or flexures. No specific dose adjustments for renal or hepatic impairment, but prolonged use should be avoided.

Mechanism of action

Fusidic acid inhibits bacterial protein synthesis by binding to elongation factor G (EF-G) on the ribosome, blocking translocation. Beclometasone, a corticosteroid, binds to glucocorticoid receptors, modulating gene expression to suppress inflammatory cytokines and mediators, reducing inflammation, erythema, and pruritus.

Pregnancy category

Use in pregnancy only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk; avoid prolonged use or application to large areas. Safety data in pregnancy are limited.

Precautions

Avoid prolonged use, monitor for local skin reactions, do not use on broken skin or large areas, avoid in untreated skin infections, caution in children and facial use, risk of systemic absorption with occlusion, monitor for signs of hypersensitivity, avoid contact with eyes, discontinue if irritation occurs.

Contraindications

Untreated primary skin infections, viral skin lesions (e.g., herpes simplex, varicella), fungal skin infections, rosacea, acne vulgaris, perioral dermatitis, hypersensitivity to beclometasone, fusidic acid, or any excipients.
