Linezolid (100mg/5ml)
Linezolid (100mg/5ml)
Antibacterial agent; oxazolidinone subclass.
Oral dry syrup for reconstitution, containing linezolid 100mg per 5ml.
Linezolid oral suspension is typically dosed at 10 mg/kg every 8–12 hours in children, not exceeding 600 mg per dose. In adults, the usual dose is 600 mg every 12 hours. No dose adjustment is generally required for renal or mild-to-moderate hepatic impairment. Severe hepatic impairment: use with caution. Always follow local guidelines.
Linezolid inhibits bacterial protein synthesis by binding to the 23S rRNA of the 50S ribosomal subunit, preventing formation of the functional 70S initiation complex. This action blocks translation, resulting in bacteriostatic activity against most Gram-positive bacteria and bactericidal activity against some strains, such as Streptococcus pneumoniae.
Treatment of Resistant Tuberculosis (TB)Treatment of Severe bacterial infections
Decreased blood pressure Vomiting Headache Nausea Decreased blood cells red cells white cells and platelets Diarrhea
Linezolid should be used during pregnancy only if clearly needed; limited human data, animal studies show potential risk. Consult healthcare provider before use.
Monitor for myelosuppression, peripheral and optic neuropathy, serotonin syndrome (especially with serotonergic drugs), lactic acidosis, liver and renal function, blood pressure, signs of superinfection, avoid prolonged use, use with caution in patients with uncontrolled hypertension or thyroid disorders.
Hypersensitivity to linezolid, concurrent use of monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) or within 2 weeks of such use, uncontrolled hypertension, pheochromocytoma, thyrotoxicosis, carcinoid syndrome, serotonin syndrome risk with serotonergic drugs.
