API strength per dosage

Dose

Lignox 2% A Injection is typically used for local or regional anesthesia. Dosage varies by procedure, patient age, and clinical status. Lower doses are recommended for children, elderly, and those with hepatic or severe renal impairment. Maximum lidocaine dose should not exceed recommended limits; always monitor for toxicity. Individualize dosing and consult product guidelines.

Mechanism of action

Lidocaine blocks voltage-gated sodium channels in neuronal membranes, inhibiting nerve impulse conduction and producing local anesthesia. Adrenaline (epinephrine) stimulates alpha-adrenergic receptors, causing local vasoconstriction, which reduces systemic absorption of lidocaine, prolongs its effect, and minimizes bleeding at the injection site.

Indications

Local anesthesia (Numb tissues in a specific area)

Side effects

Pale skin Burning sensation Stinging sensation Erythema skin redness Itching Pain Petechiae red or purple spot caused by bleeding into the skin

Pregnancy category

Lidocaine with adrenaline should be used in pregnancy only if clearly needed; potential fetal risks exist, especially with high doses or prolonged use. Consult physician.

Precautions

Allergy to amide-type anesthetics, cardiovascular disease, hepatic impairment, renal dysfunction, elderly or debilitated patients, pregnancy and lactation, interactions with other drugs, avoid intravascular injection, monitor for CNS and cardiovascular toxicity, monitor vital signs, resuscitation equipment availability, avoid in areas supplied by end arteries.

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to lidocaine, adrenaline, or amide-type local anesthetics; severe heart block; Adams-Stokes syndrome; uncontrolled severe hypertension; thyrotoxicosis; severe arrhythmias; narrow-angle glaucoma; local infection at injection site.
