Asklerol 3% Injection (Polidocanol 30 mg/mL) is typically used for sclerotherapy of varicose veins. Mechanism of action

Polidocanol acts as a non-ionic surfactant that disrupts the lipid molecules in the cell membranes of vascular endothelium. This endothelial damage induces localized thrombosis and subsequent fibrosis, leading to vessel sclerosis and closure. Its primary target is the vascular endothelial cell membrane.

Precautions

Hypersensitivity reactions, tissue necrosis risk if extravasation occurs, avoid intra-arterial injection, monitor for thromboembolic events, use caution in patients with severe arterial disease, monitor for allergic reactions, avoid use in bedridden patients, observe for local pain or inflammation, monitor injection site, resuscitation equipment available.

Contraindications

Known allergy to polidocanol, acute thromboembolic diseases, severe arterial disease, infection at injection site, bedridden patients, severe systemic infections, uncontrolled diabetes, pregnancy, lactation, severe asthma, acute superficial thrombophlebitis.
