Atropine (0.01% w/v)
Atropine (0.01% w/v)
Anticholinergic agent; specifically, a muscarinic receptor antagonist (antimuscarinic).
Sterile ophthalmic solution for topical administration to the eye.
Myotry Pediatric Eye Drop (Atropine 0.01% w/v) is typically used in children for myopia control, with dosing as directed by an ophthalmologist, often one drop in each eye once daily. Safety and efficacy in adults, or in renal or hepatic impairment, are not established; use only as prescribed and under specialist supervision.
Atropine 0.01% is a non-selective muscarinic acetylcholine receptor antagonist. By blocking M1–M5 receptors in the iris sphincter and ciliary body, it inhibits parasympathetic stimulation, causing pupil dilation (mydriasis) and paralysis of accommodation (cycloplegia), and reduces excessive eye growth, thereby slowing myopia progression in children.

Stinging sensation
Safety of atropine ophthalmic use in pregnancy is not well established; use only if potential benefits justify potential risks to the fetus.
Contraindicated in hypersensitivity to atropine, use caution in children with Down syndrome, spastic paralysis, or brain damage, monitor for allergic reactions, photophobia, blurred vision, increased intraocular pressure, systemic anticholinergic effects, avoid contact lenses, supervise pediatric use, regular ophthalmic follow-up recommended.
Hypersensitivity to atropine or any component, primary glaucoma or predisposition to angle-closure glaucoma, untreated narrow-angle glaucoma, and known hypersensitivity to belladonna alkaloids.
