Sodium Bicarbonate (500mg)
Sodium Bicarbonate (500mg)
Systemic alkalinizer; antacid (buffering agent).
Nodosis Tablet is an oral solid dosage form (tablet).
Nodosis (sodium bicarbonate 500 mg) dosing varies by indication. For metabolic acidosis in adults, typical oral doses are 325–2000 mg 1–4 times daily, adjusted per clinical response and serum bicarbonate. Paediatric dosing is weight-based. Use caution in renal or hepatic impairment due to risk of sodium/fluid overload and electrolyte disturbances; dose adjustment may be necessary.
Nodosis (sodium bicarbonate) acts as a systemic alkalinizing agent. It dissociates to provide bicarbonate ions, which buffer excess hydrogen ions in blood and urine, raising pH. This neutralizes gastric acid and corrects metabolic acidosis by shifting the equilibrium of the carbonic acid-bicarbonate buffer system toward decreased acidity.

Sodium bicarbonate use in pregnancy should be avoided unless clearly needed; potential risks include metabolic alkalosis and fluid overload. Consult a healthcare provider.
Monitor serum electrolytes, especially sodium and bicarbonate; use caution in patients with heart failure, renal impairment, hypertension, or edema; risk of metabolic alkalosis; avoid in hypocalcemia; monitor for signs of fluid overload; assess for drug interactions; use with caution in pregnancy and lactation.
Metabolic or respiratory alkalosis, hypocalcemia, hypochlorhydria, hypernatremia, severe renal impairment, uncontrolled hypertension, edema, known hypersensitivity to sodium bicarbonate or excipients.
