Olmesartan Medoxomil (20mg)
Olmesartan Medoxomil (20mg)
Angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB), antihypertensive agent.
Film-coated tablet containing 20 mg olmesartan medoxomil.
Olmesartan medoxomil 20 mg is typically used once daily for hypertension in adults; dose may be adjusted based on response, up to a usual maximum of 40 mg daily. In paediatric patients (≥6 years), dosing is weight-based. Use caution and consider lower starting doses in renal or hepatic impairment. Not recommended in severe renal or hepatic dysfunction.
Olmesartan medoxomil is an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB) that selectively inhibits the binding of angiotensin II to the AT1 receptor on vascular smooth muscle, resulting in vasodilation, reduced aldosterone secretion, decreased sodium reabsorption, and ultimately lowering blood pressure.
Hypertension (high blood pressure) Heart failure Prevention of heart attack and stroke
Cough Diarrhea Dizziness Flu like symptoms Headache Indigestion Nausea Runny nose Sore throat Stomach pain Blood in urine Chest pain
Olmesartan medoxomil may cause fetal harm when used in pregnancy, especially during the second and third trimesters; discontinue as soon as pregnancy is detected.
Monitor blood pressure, renal function, serum potassium, risk of hypotension (especially in volume-depleted patients), angioedema, worsening renal impairment, hyperkalemia, use caution in patients with renal artery stenosis, avoid in pregnancy, monitor for drug interactions (e.g., with NSAIDs, potassium supplements, or lithium).
Hypersensitivity to olmesartan or excipients, pregnancy, severe hepatic impairment, biliary obstruction, concomitant use with aliskiren in patients with diabetes mellitus, severe renal impairment, anuria.
