Dose

Adults and children over 12 years: 500 mg to 1 g every 4 to 6 hours, maximum 4 g daily. Children 6-12 years: 250-500 mg every 4 to 6 hours, maximum 2 g daily. Adjust dose in hepatic impairment; contraindicated in severe hepatic dysfunction.

Mechanism of action

Paracetamol acts primarily by inhibiting the enzyme cyclooxygenase (COX), specifically COX-2 in the central nervous system, reducing prostaglandin synthesis, thereby decreasing pain perception and fever.
