API strength per dosage

CLOTRIMAZOLE 1% USP

Dose

Apply Candid Lotion (Clotrimazole 1% USP) thinly and evenly to the affected area 2-3 times daily. Duration of treatment varies by infection type and severity, typically 2-4 weeks for skin infections and at least 4 weeks for foot infections. Safe for use in adults and children; no adjustments needed for special populations.

Mechanism of action

Clotrimazole disrupts fungal cell membrane integrity by inhibiting ergosterol synthesis, specifically targeting the enzyme lanosterol 14-α-demethylase. This inhibition impairs cell membrane formation and function, leading to fungal cell lysis and death.

Indications

Treatment of athlete's foot, jock itch, ringworm, fungal skin infections including candidiasis, tinea versicolor, and external symptoms of vulvovaginal candidiasis.
