A worked PEBC preparation exercise

Try this original PharmaProLearn calculation without signing in. It is a sample exercise, not an official exam question or a full diagnostic.

FOUNDATION SKILL · Units and quantities

A simulated dispensing exercise specifies 0.75 g of an ingredient. The worksheet records quantities in milligrams. What should be entered?

  1. 0.75 mg
  2. 7.5 mg
  3. 75 mg
  4. 750 mg
Reveal answer and explanation750 mg

There are 1,000 mg in 1 g. Multiply 0.75 by 1,000 to obtain 750 mg. Reversing the conversion would produce a thousand-fold error.

NOW CHANGE THE NUMBERS

Convert 125 mg back to grams.

Check your working

0.125 g. Divide milligrams by 1,000. Checking the reverse conversion helps expose a misplaced decimal point.

Check your method

Try the same method with different numbers. Explain each step without looking at the answer.

  • Write what the question asks you to calculate or decide.
  • Identify the relevant information and its units.
  • Show the method before calculating the final answer.
  • Check the size and unit of your answer for plausibility.
  • Record the reason for an error, then retry later without the solution.

What else should you practise for PEBC?

Practise other topics too. Check the official guidance for the full syllabus.

Part I: decision-making

When reviewing a question, explain why your chosen action best answers the task. Identify which extra information would change that decision.

Part II: communication

Practise opening a conversation, gathering relevant information and summarising a next step in plain language. Written accuracy alone does not demonstrate station performance.

Route-specific foundations

Use the Evaluating Exam track only when relevant to your sitting or foundational revision. Confirm your document-evaluation and examination route directly with PEBC.

For Part I, combine a mixed question block with a detailed error review. For Part II, protect time for spoken rehearsal with another person as well as online practice. Mark whether you missed knowledge, information gathering or communication; each needs a different revision activity.
