A worked GPPQE preparation exercise
Try this original PharmaProLearn calculation without signing in. It is a sample exercise, not an official exam question or a full diagnostic.
In a compounding arithmetic exercise, a 60 g preparation contains 1.2 g of an ingredient. What is its percentage strength by weight?
Reveal answer and explanation
2% w/wPercentage w/w = ingredient mass ÷ total preparation mass × 100. Here, 1.2 ÷ 60 × 100 = 2% w/w. The denominator is the total preparation mass.
How much ingredient would 90 g of the same 2% w/w preparation contain?
Check your working
1.8 g: 90 × 2 ÷ 100. The strength is the proportion of ingredient in the final total mass.
Check your method
Try the same method with different numbers. Explain each step without looking at the answer.
- Write what the question asks you to calculate or decide.
- Identify the relevant information and its units.
- Show the method before calculating the final answer.
- Check the size and unit of your answer for plausibility.
- Record the reason for an error, then retry later without the solution.
What else should you practise for GPPQE?
Practise other topics too. Check the official guidance for the full syllabus.
Written reasoning
Use structured written practice to make your reasoning explicit. Break a longer prompt into its tasks and answer each one directly.
Oral preparation
Say your answer aloud using a simple sequence: identify the issue, explain the reasoning and state the next step. Invite follow-up questions from a study partner.
Ghana practice context
Use current Ghanaian professional and regulatory resources for local requirements. Keep these separate from general pharmacology and calculation revision.
Pair each written revision topic with a short oral explanation. At the end of a session, ask a partner to change one detail of the scenario and explain whether your answer changes. Record gaps in knowledge separately from difficulty expressing what you know.
