FOUNDATION SKILL · Stock quantities

An inventory exercise shows 18 unopened packs containing 24 units each. How many units are in stock?

  1. 42
  2. 216
  3. 432
  4. 480
Reveal answer and explanation432

Multiply the number of packs by units per pack: 18 × 24 = 432 units. Confirm whether a stock record is expressed in packs or individual units before comparing balances.

NOW CHANGE THE NUMBERS

If 72 units are issued from the starting stock, how many full 24-unit packs remain?

Check your working

15 packs. First subtract units: 432 − 72 = 360. Then divide 360 by 24. Do not subtract units directly from the number of packs.

Check your method

Try the same method with different numbers. Explain each step without looking at the answer.

  • Write what the question asks you to calculate or decide.
  • Identify the relevant information and its units.
  • Show the method before calculating the final answer.
  • Check the size and unit of your answer for plausibility.
  • Record the reason for an error, then retry later without the solution.

What else should you practise for Nigeria PCN?

Practise other topics too. Check the official guidance for the full syllabus.

Choose your route

Local-graduate and foreign-trained pathways require different preparation decisions. Confirm your own PCN instructions before choosing the practice track.

Knowledge in practice

Review pharmacy scenarios by identifying the problem and explaining the action you would take. Use wrong answers to locate the underlying knowledge gap.

Nigerian requirements

Read current PCN publications for professional and regulatory requirements. Avoid importing another country’s law into your local-practice revision.

Start with the practice track for your route, then organise missed topics into science, practice and local requirements. For foreign-trained candidates, reserve dedicated time for Nigerian professional context alongside general pharmacy revision.
