A worked Tanzania Pharmacy Council preparation exercise
Try this original PharmaProLearn calculation without signing in. It is a sample exercise, not an official exam question or a full diagnostic.
A formulation exercise uses 3 g of an ingredient for every 100 g of finished preparation. What mass is needed for a 250 g batch?
Reveal answer and explanation
7.5 gThe scale factor is 250 ÷ 100 = 2.5. Multiply 3 g by 2.5 to get 7.5 g. Scale every ingredient by the same factor in a proportional formulation exercise.
What is the amount for a 40 g batch of the same proportional formulation?
Check your working
1.2 g: 3 × 40 ÷ 100. The scale factor is 0.4, so every ingredient quantity is reduced proportionally.
Check your method
Try the same method with different numbers. Explain each step without looking at the answer.
- Write what the question asks you to calculate or decide.
- Identify the relevant information and its units.
- Show the method before calculating the final answer.
- Check the size and unit of your answer for plausibility.
- Record the reason for an error, then retry later without the solution.
What else should you practise for Tanzania Pharmacy Council?
Practise other topics too. Check the official guidance for the full syllabus.
Paper 1 practice
Use the formulation and calculation track to practise units, concentrations and compounding reasoning. Write the method before selecting an answer.
Paper 2 practice
Connect hospital, community, clinical and supply-chain examples to practical decisions. Review why a process or action is appropriate in the scenario.
Paper 3 practice
Separate law, ethics and professional-conduct revision from general science. Confirm legal points using current Tanzanian materials.
Give each of the three PPL practice papers a recurring slot. After a diagnostic, shift more time to the weakest paper without dropping the other two. Use a separate checklist for current Council application instructions so administrative tasks do not consume revision time.
