Uganda PIE / PRE exam format & scoring

Uganda's pre-internship/eligibility and final pre-registration assessments are distinct stages. Pharmaceutical Society of Uganda materials describe broad examinable practice areas and allow several assessment formats, so candidates should prepare for application rather than a single memorised paper pattern.

AT A GLANCE

What matters first

Two stagesPre-internship and pre-registration

The stages serve different points in training and should not be treated as one interchangeable exam.

Assessment stylesMixed

PSU exam guidance describes formats that can include simulated scenarios, essays/direct narrative, clinical cases and MCQs.

HOW TO READ THE EXAM

Understand the assessment before you optimise your revision

Pre-internship preparation should establish safe foundations

At the earlier stage, focus on whether you can explain core pharmacy knowledge and apply it to straightforward professional scenarios before supervised internship experience deepens that reasoning.

Pre-registration preparation should look more like practice

Later preparation should integrate clinical/pharmaceutical care, dispensing, communication, law/ethics, supply chain and decisions drawn from supervised practice. Rehearse explaining what you would do and why.

Mixed formats reward flexible recall

If a concept can only be recognised in a multiple-choice option, it is not yet robust enough for a case or narrative task. Practise the same knowledge as an MCQ decision, a short explanation and a scenario response.

Current official guidance wins
