A worked Kenya PPB preparation exercise
Try this original PharmaProLearn calculation without signing in. It is a sample exercise, not an official exam question or a full diagnostic.
A training exercise asks you to prepare 200 mL of a 2% w/v solution. How much solute is required?
Reveal answer and explanation
4 g2% w/v means 2 g in every 100 mL. For 200 mL, use 2 × 200 ÷ 100 = 4 g. The common trap is treating the percentage as grams per litre.
How much solute would a 150 mL batch of the same 2% w/v solution need?
Check your working
3 g: 2 × 150 ÷ 100. Changing the batch volume changes the mass proportionally; the percentage stays the same.
Check your method
Try the same method with different numbers. Explain each step without looking at the answer.
- Write what the question asks you to calculate or decide.
- Identify the relevant information and its units.
- Show the method before calculating the final answer.
- Check the size and unit of your answer for plausibility.
- Record the reason for an error, then retry later without the solution.
What else should you practise for Kenya PPB?
Practise other topics too. Check the official guidance for the full syllabus.
Stage or level first
Start in the track that matches your qualification and current stage. Keep Paper I and Paper II errors in separate lists so one strong paper does not hide a weaker one.
Calculations with working
Write units at every step in dilution, concentration and quantity calculations. Review your method as well as the final number.
Applied pharmacy practice
Connect scientific knowledge to dispensing, therapeutics, professional judgement and Kenyan pharmacy practice. Check local law against current official materials.
If you are revising two PPB papers, alternate them across the week. Reserve one session for calculation mistakes and one for explaining a professional-practice decision aloud. Use the diagnostic from each paper to decide which topics deserve your longer sessions.
