The Ghana Pharmacy Professional Qualifying Examination is a three-part assessment: MCQs, essays and an oral examination. Pharmacy Council Ghana publishes the structure and weighting directly on its GPPQE service page.
AT A GLANCE
What matters first
Part I100 MCQs
60 questions in Pharmacy Practice/Clinical Pharmacy and 40 in Health Policies, Ethics, Laws and Regulations including GMP.
Part IIEssay paper
Each of the two sections offers three questions and candidates answer two from each section; each question carries 25 marks.
Final weighting50% / 30% / 20%
The Council weights MCQ, essay and oral components at 50%, 30% and 20% respectively.
HOW TO READ THE EXAM
Understand the assessment before you optimise your revision
The same two content sections run through the written assessment
Section A is Pharmacy Practice, including Clinical Pharmacy. Section B covers Health Policies, Ethics, Laws and Regulations, including Good Manufacturing Practices. This makes local professional knowledge as important to preparation as clinical recall.
Essay performance needs selection and structure
Part II does not reward dumping every fact you know. Candidates choose two questions from each section, so practise identifying the task, planning the answer and using pharmacy reasoning that directly addresses it.
The oral component changes how you revise
Part III contributes 20% to the final grading. Rehearse concise spoken explanations and professional reasoning rather than relying only on silent reading or MCQ recognition.
Current official guidance wins
The Council states a total pass requirement and section/oral minimums. Confirm the current notice for sitting dates, venues, application details and any changes before relying on an older announcement.
